"The White Noise"
Having fallen asleep to a movie she’s watched countless times before, Sarah-Louise wakes up to the click of the tape ending and the white noise of static on the tv screen.
She looks around her room, lit only by the glow of her TV. It doesn’t feel the same right now, but she can’t quite place why… as if she’s still halfway stuck between a dream and the real world. Something isn’t right.
The static is not very soothing; the light is too bright and the noise is too harsh, but it’s better than the quiet dark. She only really feels uneasy when there’s nothing there.
Wanting to go back to sleep but at the same time wanting to stay awake, Sarah-Louise tries to hear voices in the white noise… tries to let her mind and ears dissolve into it, absorbing the crackling hisses from the TV screen, perhaps actually hear a poor tormented ghosts’s attempts to take over her hollow soul…
She needs the noise to quiet her brain so she can’t turn off her TV, and she also can’t be bothered to rewind the movie and play it again, so she just lays there with her eyes closed, still being able to see the light of the static through her eyelids.

This moment, for me it felt more like Tom was speaking with Matt, wishing him the best. But also, it was very deep for me because, Tom Baker, he was my father’s Doctor, and while we re-watched it it felt as if the old generation faces the new one, hoping for a better future, and in their own way, guide them to the right path.
